After your treatment
- A new crown or bridge can feel high for a day or two. If it still feels high after that, come back: it takes minutes to adjust.
- Clean under a bridge every day with a floss threader or water flosser.
- A new denture takes two to four weeks to get used to. Small sore spots in the first week are normal and are eased at a follow-up visit.
- Take dentures out at night and keep them clean and moist.

Which crown material should I choose?
Metal is the strongest and least expensive. Porcelain-fused-to-metal looks like a tooth with a metal core. Zirconia is metal-free, strong and natural looking. We will advise you for the tooth in question; the fees for each are below.
Bridge, implant or denture?
A bridge uses the teeth either side, an implant replaces the root as well, and a denture is removable. Our comparison page sets out the pros, cons and costs of each.
How long does a crown last?
With good cleaning and regular check-ups, many crowns last ten years or more. Grinding, decay at the edge and gum disease are what shorten their life.
