Bone Grafting for Dental Implants

An implant needs enough healthy bone around it. After a tooth is lost, the bone often shrinks. A bone graft rebuilds that bone so an implant can be placed securely.

₹15,000published fee for a bone graft procedure; confirmed after imaging

What it is

Graft material is placed where bone is missing, often at the time of extraction or implant placement, and covered so it can heal and be replaced by your own bone over months. Whether you need a graft is usually decided from a CBCT scan, which we will advise and tell you where it is done. Grafting is carried out by an MDS specialist by prior appointment.

Who it is for

  • Thin or short bone at the implant site
  • Bone lost after an old extraction or gum disease
  • Preserving the socket after an extraction for a future implant

How it is done

  1. Examination and a CBCT scan
  2. Local anaesthetic
  3. Graft placed and the gum closed with stitches
  4. Healing time before the implant, or the implant placed together, as planned

Time: Healing usually takes a few months before the implant is loaded.

Afterwards

  • Cold packs and soft food for the first days
  • Do not disturb the area; rinse gently as advised
  • Keep review visits

What to know before you decide

Grafts usually integrate well, but healing varies, and smoking or uncontrolled diabetes increase the risk of failure. Some sites need more than one procedure.
