After your treatment
- Teeth feel tender for two to four days after braces go on or are adjusted. Soft food and a usual painkiller help.
- Orthodontic wax on a bracket stops it rubbing the cheek while the mouth gets used to it.
- Clear aligners only work if they are worn about 22 hours a day.
- Wear your retainer exactly as advised. Teeth try to move back, especially in the first year.

Questions patients ask
Am I too old for braces?
No. Teeth can be moved at any age as long as the gums and bone are healthy. Many of our orthodontic patients are adults.
Braces or clear aligners?
Fixed braces handle every kind of case. Aligners are nearly invisible and removable, but they need discipline and suit mild to moderate cases best. The orthodontist will tell you which suits your teeth.
How long does treatment take?
Most cases take 12 to 18 months, followed by retainers. Your orthodontist gives you an estimate at the first visit.
