Composite Restoration

Tooth-coloured Composite Filling — Class I (the chewing surface of a back tooth)

A Class I filling repairs decay on the chewing surface of a back tooth. It is done in tooth-coloured composite so it looks like your tooth.

₹3,500per Class I composite restoration

What it is

Class I means the decay is on the biting surface of a molar or premolar, or in its pits and grooves. These are the most common cavities and, caught early, the simplest to restore. Your dentist removes the decay, bonds composite into the cavity in layers and shapes it to your bite.

Who it is for

  • A cavity seen on examination or X-ray
  • A dark pit or groove that catches the probe
  • Sensitivity to sweets or cold
  • An old silver filling that is failing

How it is done

  1. Local anaesthetic if needed
  2. Decay removed and the cavity shaped
  3. Bonding agent applied
  4. Composite placed in layers and hardened with light
  5. Bite checked and the filling polished

Time: Usually one visit.

Afterwards

  • Eat once the numbness wears off
  • Mild sensitivity for a few days can occur
  • Floss daily

What to know before you decide

If decay has reached close to the nerve, the tooth may stay sensitive or later need a root canal; your dentist will warn you when this is a risk. Very large cavities may be better restored with an onlay or crown.

Common questions

Why not a silver filling?

Composite bonds to the tooth and matches its colour; it usually needs less healthy tooth removed.

Will it hurt after the filling?

Some sensitivity can last a few days. Pain that lingers or wakes you at night should be checked.

How long will it last?

Often many years; it depends on size, bite, diet and cleaning.
