Gum Problems

Gum Flap Surgery for Advanced Gum Disease

When gum disease has formed deep pockets around the teeth, ordinary scaling cannot reach the tartar and bacteria at the bottom. Flap surgery opens the gum so the root surfaces can be cleaned directly.

₹8,000per quadrant (up to four teeth)

What it is

Under local anaesthetic, the gum is gently lifted, the roots and bone are cleaned, and the gum is stitched back closer to the tooth so the pocket is shallower and easier to keep clean. It is carried out by an MDS periodontist by prior appointment.

Who it is for

  • Deep gum pockets after scaling has been done
  • Bleeding gums and bone loss on X-ray
  • Loose teeth from gum disease that may still be saved

How it is done

  1. Scaling and a gum assessment first
  2. Local anaesthetic
  3. The gum flap is raised, roots cleaned, and the gum stitched
  4. Stitches removed at a review visit

Time: One visit per area, plus reviews.

Afterwards

  • Soft food and gentle cleaning as advised
  • Use the prescribed or advised mouthwash
  • Regular cleaning visits afterwards to keep the gums stable

What to know before you decide

Surgery controls gum disease but cannot fully regrow lost bone, and teeth can look longer as the gums settle. Stopping smoking and good daily cleaning are essential for the result to last.
