Tooth Extraction

Surgical Tooth Extraction in Pune

Removing a tooth is always the last option after saving it has been considered. When it is needed, the type of extraction depends on the tooth, its roots and the bone around it. This page explains a surgical tooth extraction.

₹4,000per tooth

What it is

A surgical extraction involves a small cut in the gum, and sometimes removing a little bone, to reach the tooth or root. Stitches are usually placed afterwards. Difficult surgical cases are handled by an MDS oral and maxillofacial surgeon. The extraction type is decided from the examination and X-ray, and your dentist explains it before starting.

Who it is for

  • A root left behind in the bone
  • A tooth that has broken below the gum
  • A tooth that cannot be reached with instruments alone

How it is done

  1. Medical history, medicines (especially blood thinners) and an X-ray
  2. Local anaesthetic so you feel pressure but not pain
  3. The tooth is loosened and removed after a small gum opening
  4. The socket is cleaned and you bite on gauze
  5. Written aftercare instructions and a plan to replace the tooth if needed

Time: One visit, plus a review to check healing or remove stitches.

Afterwards

  • Bite on the gauze as instructed; do not spit or rinse forcefully for 24 hours
  • Cold pack on the cheek on the first day
  • Soft, cool food; avoid smoking and drinking through a straw
  • Call us if bleeding does not stop, or pain increases after day three

What to know before you decide

Swelling, bruising and a few days of discomfort are normal. Less often, a dry socket, infection or, near the sinus or nerve, other complications can occur; your dentist will discuss the risks for your tooth before starting.

Common questions

Will it hurt?

You feel pressure, not pain, once the area is numb. Soreness afterwards is managed with the advised painkillers.

Should a missing tooth be replaced?

Usually yes, with an implant, bridge or denture, so neighbouring teeth do not drift.

Can I go back to work the same day?

Often yes after a simple extraction; after a surgical one, rest for the day is wiser.
