how much does wisdom tooth removal cost

By Dr Chinmay Gokhale (MDS, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery) · Last reviewed 23 October 2026 · 538 words

The short answer

At AR 32, our current published fee for wisdom tooth extraction ranges from ₹6,000 for an easy case to ₹18,000 for a tooth lying close to the nerve, per tooth. The grade depends on how the tooth sits in the bone, which is seen on examination and X-ray, so the final cost is confirmed only after your dentist has assessed it.

The honest answer to "how much?" is "it depends on the tooth", because a wisdom tooth that has come through straight is a very different job from one lying sideways under bone next to the nerve. Below are our published fees, what decides the grade, and what else you may need to budget for.

Our current published fees

These are the prices listed in our online store, per tooth. Wisdom tooth removal is carried out by, or planned with, our MDS oral surgeon.

  • Easy: our current published fee is ₹6,000.
  • Basic: ₹8,000.
  • Moderate: ₹10,000.
  • Difficult: ₹12,000.
  • Surgical (an impacted tooth that needs the gum opened and bone removed): ₹14,000.
  • Nerve proximity (a lower tooth whose roots sit close to the nerve canal): ₹18,000.

The final grade, and so the final cost, is confirmed after examination and X-ray, not over the phone.

What decides the grade

  • Position: fully erupted, partly through the gum, or completely buried.
  • Angle: upright, tilted forward into the tooth in front, horizontal, or tilted backwards.
  • Roots: straight and fused roots are easier than curved, spread or hooked ones.
  • Distance from the nerve: the inferior alveolar nerve (which gives feeling to the lower lip and chin) runs below the lower wisdom teeth. Closer roots need slower, more careful surgery.
  • Upper or lower: upper wisdom teeth are usually simpler.

Other costs to expect

  • Consultation: our booked consultation fee is ₹500. An MDS specialist consultation is ₹1,500.
  • Digital X-ray (RVG): our published fee is ₹500.
  • Scan: if a lower tooth looks close to the nerve, a CBCT or OPG scan may be advised. We will tell you where it is done and what it costs before you go.
  • Treating the infection first: if the gum around the tooth is infected (pericoronitis), a localised cleaning of that area may be done first; our published fee for it is ₹1,000.
  • Medicines from the pharmacy are separate.

Booking and paying for surgery

Surgical appointments with the specialist are booked in advance, and an advance of ₹2,000 reserves the operatory and the MDS specialist for your slot. We accept cash, UPI, cards and bank transfer; card and netbanking links carry a 3% gateway fee, while cash, UPI and bank transfer do not. If you pay for your plan in advance, the plan-size benefit applies: nothing up to ₹10,000, 5% from ₹10,001 to ₹20,000, and 10% from ₹20,001. Because extraction counts as surgery, the benefit is capped at 10%. Our monthly plans start only from ₹60,000, so they rarely apply to wisdom teeth. Details are on our payment options page.

Insurance and claims

We have no insurance tie-ups or empanelment with insurers. Dental insurance in India rarely covers routine dentistry, although some policies cover surgical removal; check with your insurer. We give an itemised invoice for any claim you make.

Is the cheapest option ever fine?

Yes, when the tooth genuinely is simple. An upright, fully erupted upper wisdom tooth does not need surgical-level fees, and we will not grade it as one. What we would not advise is choosing a clinic only on price for a deeply impacted lower tooth near the nerve; that is a job for careful planning. book a consultation to have your tooth graded.

This answers a general question. It is not a diagnosis, and it cannot account for what is actually happening in your mouth. If something hurts, get it looked at — by us or by anyone.
