Most root canals at our Kharadi clinic take two visits about a week apart. A single visit is possible when the tooth is not infected and the canals are straightforward, but that is a judgement made after the x-ray, not a promise made on the phone.
A standard root canal requires one to three visits. Mild to moderate infections can be completed in a single 60 to 90-minute appointment. If you have a severe infection, swelling, or complex root anatomy, treatment spans two or three visits to allow medication to work inside the tooth.
by saying that wish to reassure that not all cases can be completed in single sitting or it is difficult to say that we need 2 or 3 sittings for each case, we simply decide by taking into consideration pain factor, progess while working, overall infection seen in x ray, rulling out any severe sinus tract or failing root canals need personal attention.

Pre-Operative Instructions
Blood sugar, blood pressure & thyroid levels should be under control prior to surgery. (Consult physician)
Start taking prescribed medications 2 days prior to the date of surgery or as instructed by the doctor.
Patients should have a heavy breakfast or meal 1 hr prior to coming for surgery.
Patient should avoid smoking, alcohol consumption, tobacco chewing, or use of mishri 48 hrs prior and 72 hrs post-surgery.
Patient should be accompanied by a close friend or relative.
Kindly refrain from using any kind of makeup or cosmetics on the day of surgery to avoid contamination.
Patient should be present 15-20 mins before surgery timing to avoid anxiety.
A root canal fails if bacteria remain inside a hidden canal or if the final crown is not placed promptly. If a temporary filling leaks between appointments, the canals become completely re-infected, ruining the entire procedure.
You might experience a flare-up of pain in the first week following a single-visit procedure, which is a normal inflammatory response to the endodontic treatment process itself.
A correctly performed root canal utilizes digital x-rays and precise instruments to thoroughly clean out the entire canal system. The tooth is then completely sealed directly to the root tip, effectively preventing bacteria from ever re-entering the treated space again.
If an infection persists, we prescribe targeted antibiotics, perform a root canal retreatment, or consult a dedicated endodontic specialist for microsurgery.
The most common mistake patients make is delaying the final crown. Feeling absolutely no pain after the first visit, they skip the final appointment, leaving a weak temporary filling that inevitably leaks, fractures, and causes total procedural failure.
Opinion: I firmly prefer completing root canals in a single visit whenever biologically possible. It saves you from multiple numbing injections, prevents temporary filling leaks, and respects your busy schedule without compromising long-term success.
