Oral thrush white patches candidiasis clinical representation

Symptom Breakdown

What you feel Slightly raised, creamy white, "cottage cheese-like" lesions on your tongue, inner cheeks, roof of your mouth, or gums. If you scrape the patches off, they leave a red, raw, and sometimes bleeding surface beneath. You may also experience a cottony feeling in your mouth and a loss of taste.
Why it happens An overgrowth of the *Candida albicans* fungus (yeast). This naturally lives in your mouth but can multiply out of control due to a weakened immune system, recent heavy antibiotic use, uncontrolled diabetes, wearing ill-fitting dentures, or using corticosteroid inhalers (for asthma).
Clinical Advice
  • Do not aggressively scrape the lesions. This will only irritate the raw tissue and cause bleeding.
  • If you use a corticosteroid inhaler, rinse your mouth out with water immediately after every use.
  • If you wear dentures, remove them every night and clean them thoroughly to prevent trapping the fungus against your palate.
Treatment Note Prescription antifungal oral rinses, localized lozenges (clotrimazole), systemic antifungal medication for severe cases, and professional denture sterilization.

Rebalance Your Oral Microbiome

Oral thrush is highly treatable, but because it often points to an underlying imbalance in your health, medications, or dental appliance hygiene, a professional assessment is crucial. By eliminating the fungal overgrowth and correcting the local environment, we can restore the natural balance and comfort to your mouth.
