What you see & feel
You notice pink or bright red spit when brushing or flossing your teeth. Your gums likely appear swollen, puffy, and dark red instead of a healthy, firm pink. They may feel tender or sore to the touch, and you might also struggle with chronic bad breath or a metallic taste in your mouth.
Why it happens
Healthy gums do not bleed. Bleeding is your body's acute inflammatory response to bacterial plaque and hardened calculus (tartar) trapped beneath the gum line.
