Why it happens
Tooth size anomalies are primarily genetic or linked to developmental conditions during early childhood. Microdontia frequently affects the upper lateral incisors (often called "peg laterals"), making them look like small cones. Macrodontia is rarer and is often tied to pituitary gland overactivity or genetic inheritance patterns.
Clinical Advice
- Do not attempt to file down large teeth at home. Using nail files or sandpaper on teeth destroys the protective enamel, causing severe sensitivity and permanent nerve damage.
- While primarily an aesthetic concern, mismatched tooth sizes can disrupt your bite alignment and make proper brushing and flossing difficult due to abnormal spacing or severe crowding.
